Frequently asked questions
Q. Is the leadership at City of Joy ordained? A. Yes. Both Rick and Amy were trained up by the Assemblies of God (AoG). But more importantly, they were set into office as leaders of City of Joy on Thursday August the 25th, 2005 at City of Joy, Belmont Picturehouse.
Q. Why dont you have your own building? A. We do! We are in the midst of a £1m development in the City Centre's Union Square. In May 2010 we bought the last standing warehouse in the area in a multi-million pound shopping/restaurant/cinema multiplex (the others were taken down and replaced by 1800 car parking spaces and the Multiplex buildings). We will be moving into the new building at the end of 2012.
Q. Why Aberdeen? A. Rick and Amy moved to Aberdeen specifically to plant in Scotland, picking up secular work from an agency whilst in England. Over the following few years they were rapidly led by God to church plant in Aberdeen.
Q. Why Newfrontiers and not AoG? A. The AoG is a great organisation and Rick & Amy have both learnt and served with great joy in various capacities with them. During their time in England they helped with many AoG church plants. However, through relationship with a New Covenant Ministries International (NCMI) church plant (in Cumbria) stemming back to 1996, they were exposed to the apostolic, new testament model for church planting. Seeing this in action changed the way that they viewed church planting. Thus, when the time came to plant, the choice had already been made to do it with apostolic input, and started the journey with our great friends in NCMI. Today, City of Joy continue to be an apostolic/prophetic group who are part of the Newfrontiers' family of churches.
