PRESS RELEASES
(Wednesday 19th May 2010)
Aberdeen's Press and Journal Newspaper:
The Official press release was : City of Joy, an Aberdeen-based church group has applied for planning permission to turn a city centre building into a conferencing facility and a place of worship after the group outlined it was making a £1 million investment in the purchase and renovation of the building.
The premises on Palmerston Road, previously occupied by Cosalt Safety Ltd, total 15,000 sq ft (1,400 sq. m.) and the church group hopes to be able to change the use of the building to help home its ever growing congregation.
Established in Aberdeen in 2002, City of Joy is now part of Newfrontiers family of churches and currently meets at the Belmont Picturehouse on Sunday mornings. City of Joy leader Rick Brooks, who obtained his Bachelors degree in Divinity from Aberdeen University, said that the purchase of the Palmerston Road building is one of many things that signalling a real movement for Churches in Aberdeen. He said: “With King’s Community Church on King Street bursting at the seams, Aberdeen Christian Fellowship having to extend its existing facilities on Union Grove and our recent planning proposal to turn this site into a conferencing facility that will seat more than 400 people on the edge of the Union Square, I’d say that we are seeing a small glimpse of what God is up to in our city. “We are still raising funds for this project, but God has been faithful and we are almost halfway there. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our legal team at CMS Cameron McKenna who have gone over and beyond the call of duty, extending patience to our early answers of ‘faith’ when finance was not forthcoming.”
City of Joy is a registered charity that originates from Aberdeen.
